Brevet «2026_IB14_Afula_AyeletHashahar», 200 км, 16.05.2026 (Saturday)
Start: Afula gas station Delek в 6:00
Finish: Afula gas station Delek
This 210-kilometer circular route starts and ends in Afula, looping north to the ancient ruins of Tel Hazor and the Sea of Galilee before climbing the scenic Mount Gilboa ridge, offering a journey filled with rich biblical history, archaeological national parks, and stunning valley views.
The Northern & Eastern Galilee Loop
This comprehensive 209.4-kilometer circular route begins and ends in the city of Afula, serving as an exceptional journey through Israel's rich historical, archaeological, and geographical landscapes. The itinerary winds through the Galilee, circles the Sea of Galilee, reaches north toward the Hula Valley, and returns via the dramatic heights of Mount Gilboa.
1. Departure from Afula (0.0 km)
The journey commences in Afula, dynamically referred to as the "Capital of the Jezreel Valley." Before setting out, travelers can explore the historical layers of Tel Afula, an ancient settlement mound located right in the heart of the modern city, reflecting thousands of years of continuous habitation.
2. The Sea of Galilee Approach: Kfar Tavor to Kinneret (16.7 km – 36.1 km)
Heading northeast via Route 767, the route passes the historic village of Kfar Tavor, nestled at the foot of the iconic, dome-shaped Mount Tabor—revered as the traditional site of the Transfiguration of Jesus. The road then descends sharply toward the Jordan Rift Valley, offering panoramic vistas as it approaches the southern shores of the Sea of Galilee (Lake Kinneret), the lowest freshwater lake on Earth.
3. CP1: Alonit HaOn Fuel & Receipt Check (43.2 km)
Situated on the eastern shore along Route 92, this mandatory administrative stop is located at the Alonit HaOn service station. Beyond its function for timing and refueling, this point sits directly below the steep cliffs of the Golan Heights, right next to the archaeological remains of Sussita (Hippos), a prominent city of the ancient Decapolis.
4. The Evangelical Triangle: Yehudia to Kfar Nahum (65.0 km – 76.1 km)
The route tracks the northern perimeter of the lake, crossing the Yehudia Junction (Route 87) near the rugged canyons of the Meshushim and Yehudiya Nature Reserves. It then connects to Route 90 at the Kfar Nahum Junction. This area houses Capernaum (Kfar Nahum), the archaeological epicenter of Jesus's Galilean ministry, featuring a beautifully preserved 4th-century white limestone synagogue and the octagonal church built over the traditional House of St. Peter.
5. CP2: Ayelet HaShahar Turnaround Point (96.7 km)
Pushing further north into the Upper Galilee, the route reaches its northernmost apex at Ayelet HaShahar, one of Israel's earliest kibbutzim. Directly adjacent lies the UNESCO World Heritage site of Tel Hazor National Park. As the largest biblical-era archaeological site in the country, Hazor was famously described in the Book of Joshua as "the head of all those kingdoms," boasting massive Canaanite palaces and sophisticated Israelite water systems.
6. CP3: Sheluhot and the Valley of Springs (172.7 km)
After heading south back through the Jordan Valley, the route turns onto Route 669 at the Sheluhot Junction. This region, known as the Valley of Springs (Emek HaMaayanot), is rich in natural water features. It sits just minutes away from the cascading thermal pools of Gan HaShlosha (Sahne) and the expansive Roman-Byzantine ruins of Beit She'an National Park.
7. CP4: The Mount Gilboa Scenic Climb (180.2 km – 191.2 km)
Travelers face a demanding, winding ascent up Route 6666 onto the rugged ridge of Mount Gilboa. The checkpoint requires a photo verification at the famous "Iris" sign on the mountain peak. This ridge offers breathtaking, cliff-edge views over the Jezreel and Harod Valleys below. Historically, it is the somber biblical site where King Saul and his sons fell in battle against the Philistines. Seasonally, it is the exclusive home to the ra

Israeli Brevet Rules by Tal Kazir
Exact start location and time will be available at least 2 weeks before each brevet.
There is a chance that the brevet route will change before the start, considering various conditions (e.g. weather, road works, etc.), or even postponed by a week or more.
Controls can take different shapes and forms.
- Manned Control, where a person will be present at the control and provide proof of passage.
- Receipt Control, where you need to buy something at a store that will be open during the control opening hours (e.g. 24/7 petrol station's convenience store,) and keep the receipt with printed time and place. Only the rider can buy the item (meaning: if you ride in a group, each rider must buy something!)
- Photo Control, where you need to take a picture at a certain place. Make sure that the rider (and/or the bike) are visible in the picture, as well a feature of the area. The picture can be taken by anyone (meaning: if you ride in a group, not everyone need to take a picture.)
- A GPS recorded track can be used as proof under these terms: A GPS proof can only replace a Photo Control in the middle of the route (meaning: it cannot replace the start control, nor it cannot replace the finish control, nor it cannot replace a Manned Control, nor Receipt Control, or any other control type.) The file should be in .gpx format. The recording should prove passage in all control points. e.g. if the control is a petrol station, the recording should show passage through the service road. The recording can only prove passage for the rider itself. Meaning: if you ride in a group, only those with a gps can use it as proof.
Every brevet has a designated "Reports Controller.
The Reports Controller collects all the proofs of passage in controls. They will check the proofs of passage, and produce an Excel file with the results of all the riders. That Excel file will be sent to me, and I will pass it on to the ACP. The Reports Controller is in charge of collecting riders contact details before the ride, checking proofs of passage, creating the Excel file, and sending it to me. There are no other obligation and/or responsibilities for the Reports Controller. I can be contacted first by email, and refer you to the relevant Reports Controller. My contact details are listed at the relevant ACP page. Alternatively, you can fill form, and approve the confirmation email (to prevent spam.)
*) The Reports Controller must be contacted up to 2 weeks before a brevet, according to the brevet dates written above. It will help them getting ready with everything that's needed to follow the riders.
After finish:
A rider who finished a brevet successfully is entitled to register with the ACP. This will be recognized all over the world, and could be used when registering to any brevet anywhere in the world. Registration fees are 25 NIS (roughly 8 USD / 6 EUR / 5 GBP) per rider per brevet. You need to pay the registration fees within 48 hours after a successful brevet.
Registration schedule for a support car (that you can meet only at controls) are the same as the riders. There are no fees for a support car.
The brevets are held on public roads. Therefore, there's no way we can block any other rider from riding on the same road at the same time as the brevet. But if you want your ride to be recognized, you must notify the Reports Controller before the brevet. The Reports Controller is entitled to not recognizing any ride without giving any reason (before or after the brevet!)
Good Luck
You need to pay the registration fees within 48 hours after a successful finish
